Review: Some Old Favorites With a Healthy Twist

We love our pancakes, waffles, and pasta so when I received a sample of two new Atkins’ products from Mom Central: Penne Pasta and All Purpose Baking Mix, I thought what a lucky choice for us to get to review.

I have to admit to being one of those people with good intentions when it comes to our family diet, but then reality sets in, life gets busy, and we get back into our old habits. I will also try healthy or generic brands without hesitation, but if I can taste the difference, I frequently go immediately back to the brands I have bought for years. So anytime I can find a way to incorporate healthy without really making any changes to our routine and without noticing a taste difference, I’m happy. That’s the case with both of these new Atkins’ products. The only change- -what I purchase at the store. After the products are home, they pretty much cook the same as some of the alternatives I have purchased in the past. And after cooking, neither I nor my family seemed to notice much difference.

Almost every Saturday we eat breakfast at my grandmother’s house so Sundays are my weekend meal to cook. My girls love the breakfast breads – pancakes, waffles, and French toast so that’s a pretty regular request. The first Sunday after receiving the Atkins All Purpose Baking Mix, I decided we would have pancakes. I tend to only buy one brand of baking mix so I was curious to see if they would notice the difference. The result: No comments at all. Their breakfast was a little healthier, and I never had to tell them. This makes it a plus in my book as when my youngest knows she’s eating a healthy alternative, she usually instantly decides she doesn’t like it.

Before receiving this sample, I wasn’t aware that Atkins had a complete food line, and look forward to trying a few of their other products.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Atkins and received samples to facilitate my candid review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
