Summer Fitness – Day 4
Yesterday was the 4th day of my workout regiment. I overslept and did not do my morning mile walk. By the time I woke up, we had to rush to get to our daily appointment. Oops. I did start my day reasonably healthy food wise though. I had a bowl of plain Special K for breakfast to reduce the calories. When I went to pick up Cameron from her summer activity program, they were celebrating the … Read entire article »

20 Second Fitness Day 3
I started out my third day of fitness with a mile walk with Leslie Sansone. My plan is to start each morning with this mile walk. I am currently completing her 5 Day Slim Down where she gives you a different mile each day. Yesterday’s focus (while still walking a mile) was arms. And after completing the mile and doing all of her arm movements while I was walking, my arms did hurt. Not a … Read entire article »

20 Second Fitness Day 2
Yesterday was my second day of 20 Second Fitness. I completed the warmup day 2 workout. It was a little longer, 5 minutes, but I though the exercise was still easily manageable. It was kind of tricky though because we did the 4 minutes of workout and then had to start it again. Unfortunately, we procrastinated and didn’t do it until late so I didn’t feel like turning on the Wii Fit for a weigh … Read entire article »

Workout Report: Day 1
Yesterday was the first day of my new workout routine, 20 Second Fitness. Before beginning, we (Cameron and I) did a weigh in and measurements so that we could track (and report to you) on our progress as we go along. I was excited to note that I had lost 5 pounds since March and have not been doing any exercising – only slight moderating of my diet. This was really motivating for me to … Read entire article »

Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products
This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine. I admit to rarely buying store brands of items, but one exception I make is for Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products . I have now bought several of their basic first aid type supplies and been overly satisfied with them. Not only that, but I have also put together “bathroom baskets” for several of my graduating seniors who have moved out on their own this summer. My niece has started spending a lot of time with us – she’s 3, and she is in a phase where she thinks that bandaids solve all problems. So being able to get bandaids for a good price (and that are still good quality should one of us need one), has been a great … Read entire article »

A New Kick
So my new – I can’t focus on anything because of everything going on – habit is to look up various diet pills. It’s actually somewhat entertaining to read the reviews – people either LOVE it or HATE it. There’s never any middle of the road people, and there’s never any longterm people who took the pills and tell us months and years later if they gained the weight back. Today I’m reading about an “Extreme” pill called lipo 6 hers black. It’s for people wanting to really pump up their muscle too. As is typical, there are some MAJOR lovers out there that promise you’ll be toned and awesome in no time. … Read entire article »

Last Diet Trends
It seems that my spam box (thank you gmail for filtering it) is filled up with a different diet trend every few months. This time it’s apidexin emails. I’m a big disbeliever, but I always am curious just to see what’s being said out there so I googled does apidexin work just to see what’s out there. It is a fat burning diet pill I guess from what I can read. My question for you though is do you notice the cycles of diet emails, sexual health emails, and such. Or do you even look at your spam? I check mine in case a real email gets misfiled. I don’t know much about this current method, but if my email is any judge, it’s a popular method with all the … Read entire article »

Adult Foster Home Help
This post brought to you by NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine. My grandmother has run an adult foster home since 1997. Over these years, she’s done an mazing job not only caring for these individuals in her home, but also transporting them to doctor appointments, to go shopping, to church, and even on occasion on a vacation like trip. This job required her to buy a large van and then have it modified to hold two wheelchairs and a ramp for getting the wheelchair bound clients in and out. While she is slowly getting out of this field due to her own age and health, she is trying to find good places for her clients or in many cases, they have been able to correct some health issues and then go out and … Read entire article »

Cinch!
With the new year comes so many resolutions to eat better, exercise more, and lose weight, and I’m not oblivious to those resolutions. The goal here at Southern Girl Reviews is to be 2 sizes smaller come June 1. Yep. And I’m bound and determined to do it. So what is the plan? I’ve been reading a lot of different plans from the experts to just some people I know who have lost the weight and … Read entire article »

What Teenagers Will Say
As a teacher, I’m amazed at some of the things my students say on a daily basis. Seriously. It truly amazes me. I am constantly thinking, “Did I just hear that?” From their weekend occurrences to things that go on between their friends to their personal issues such as “their monthly times” to struggles with looking for body acne treatment, they will share everything, and it blows my mind. I remember being a teenager, and I didn’t want my teachers to know ANYTHING! Bu it’s different with this generation – drastically different. How do we go back to teaching our kids that some things are simply private I wonder? I’d love to know when and why we’ve made this transition. … Read entire article »

11 Days and Counting
to what? Well the teacher in me says until school is out, but that’s not it. You see I’ve decided that I must be thinner and more fit by the time school gets out for summer. Period. I will allow myself no other option. Therefore, I am not waiting until New Year’s for a resolution. I will not turn to weight loss pills. I will do this the hard way – diet and exercise. School gets out next Friday and Saturday I start eating smarter and finding ways to be more physically active. Wish me luck! I need it! … Read entire article »

The Invisalign Teen Make Me Smile Challenge
My oldest daughter is now 19, and I am so thankful that we escaped without the need for braces. However, my youngest is 10, and I don’t think we’ll be so lucky. She’s already had to have 3 baby teeth pulled because there wasn’t room for the adult tooth under or beside it to grow in appropriately. *sigh* I’ve started looking at various options and prices now as I know that dental care can be expensive, and I might need to start putting back some savings now. One option that fascinates me is the Invisalign Teen system. Invisalign is a teeth straightening alternative to metal braces. Invisalign “involves a series of clear, comfortable and removable aligners that gradually move your teeth.” Because I teach junior high and high school students, I know … Read entire article »
