Holiday Recommendation: Hickory Farms Gift Baskets
When my brother was serving overseas, I was introduced to ordering gift baskets through Hickory Farms to send to troop members as they have special packages that offer free shipping to APO and FPO addresses. Since discovering that, I have been happy to make a purchase through Hickory Farms when I get the chance. Additionally, this year: This holiday, for every signature Party Planner gift sold, Hickory Farms will donate $5 to the No Kid Hungry Campaign. Each … Read entire article »

Happy Birthday To Me
This month I am celebrating number 32, and I feel every year of it most days. There are certain traditions that go with birthdays in our family. My grandmother makes the birthday cakes, and we always go out to eat. The birthday boy/girl gets to pick the location. My daughter chose Golden Corral this year and Ihop last year. I share my birthday with my brother (one day apart) so this is his year to choose. Additionally, we don’t exchange many gifts and stick to cash and gift cards as we have all realized just how much junk we have and that we don’t need more (well of course except for the kids). This year I have to work on my birthday. But it is the last day … Read entire article »

Unique Stocking Stuffer: Teas’ Tea
I like unique and different items in stockings. There’s always the small gift or two and some fruit and candy, but there has to be something that no one is expecting. This year it will be a bottle of Teas’ Tea. My girls love tea (I won’t list how many gallons we go through a week – YIKES!) Teas’ Tea is a great series of flavored teas. I love their Country Peach Black tea, and my … Read entire article »

Holiday Recommendation for the Hard to Shop For: FlipFlip Wines
It has been a long time since I had drank any wine, when I went to a friend’s birthday party, and she was serving wine to celebrate. After that party, I started having a glass of wine here and there with dinner and remembered that I did in fact like winding down in the evenings with good food and good drink. One wine that I have found to be affordable but still high quality is flipflop … Read entire article »

Need a Quick Dinner?
This time of year I am working long hours. I try to be at school by about 6:30 each morning, and I don’t leave until about 5:30 or 6 in the evening. This means we need quick and easy meals. And I’d prefer they be at least a little bit healthy – just a little. A recent addition to our weekly routine is Pepperoni Spaghetti. The recipe can be found on the Chef Boyardee website, and my daughters and son-in-law love it as well! YEA! I’m a big fan of meals that can be stuck in the oven and ignored a few minutes while I get changed out of work clothes and start a load of clothes. Pepperoni Spaghetti Bake is one of those recipes! The ingredients are things that … Read entire article »

Wine Review Coming Soon
I’m excited to announce that I recently secured a great wine review. This will be a first at Southern Girl Reviews. I have to admit that it’s been a while since I drank wine, but I’m excited about the opportunity, and the reviews I’ve read so far are really positive. In anticipation, I’ve not only looked at their reviews, but I’ve also been checking out Wine Accessory gift ideas in case I take a bottle over to a friends house to share. Stay tuned for this review. I’m expecting the shipment anytime. … Read entire article »

Yum! Yum! Anytizers Rock!
Every year we have certain meals that are always just a meal of appetizers. A few of those just passed – Christmas Eve at my grandmother’s and New Year’s at my grandmothers. In addition, we do major appetizers only for any of the bowl college football games and my favorite – The Super Bowl! Over the years, I’ve tried out A LOT of different pre prepared appetizers because I”m all about quick and easy, especially on those occasions when there are so many other things to do. I was recently sent 2 coupons to try the Tyson Anytizers for free. It’s a funny story how that 2 ended up being 4. You see, after I had checked out the first time, I realized I forgot to give the cashier my coupons. … Read entire article »

Recipe Searching Time
I just realized this morning that it is time for our annual fair baking contest. It is a kid’s contest that my daughter’s have entered every year since we moved to this school. This year it’s just Cameron, and we’ll be shaking off the dust of our recipe books tonight in search of our favorite cakes, cookies, quick breads, yeast breads, or creative uses of convenience foods recipes. We try to come up with something new each year. The search begins tonight. She’s allowed 2 entries (but only 1 per category). If you have any outstanding recipes, I’d love to hear them so that we can get some ideas. … Read entire article »
