Holiday Recommendations for Baby: MAM Teether and Pacifiers

Holiday Recommendations for Baby: MAM Teether and Pacifiers

When you have little bitty babies to shop for during the holidays, it is hard to find them gifts sometimes. The babies in our family have all received tons of clothes. My daughter has actually asked that I NOT give my grandson any clothes until he’s past 12 months size (not that I listen since I gave him two new Christmas onesies last week). Our babies are all pretty must too small for many toys … Read entire article »

How Do You Decide?

I have a confession. I know I do not have enough life insurance.  I do have some that is provided through my employer, but I don’t have any policies that are self paid.  And as a single mother, I know I should have enough to help take care of my daughter if something happened to me, but I find insurance so confusing.  Whether it be health, dental, vision, home, auto, or life. It all confuses me.  I don’t know how to decide or how to choose an advisor. I know you can get a quote term online, but how do you decide which one is a go? I have decided that when it comes to life insurance, I am going to begin educating myself and make some decisions. My daughter … Read entire article »

What a Weekend

I love long weekends. I especially loved this long weekend because instead of having time to lay around watch celebrity news, I spent the weekend preparing to be a grandma! Yep. My first grandchild has been due any day. Tomorrow he will have the help of the doctor. My daughter is being induced, and Toby will be here. It seems like the last 9 months have taken forever to get here. The excitement and preparations has gotten me pretty far behind here.  Tomorrow I will announce winners of past contests and later this week start posting new ones so stay tuned for Toby updates, winners, and more contests! Happy Labor Day! … Read entire article »

How to Relish the ‘Little Moments’ in Life

Changing endless amounts of diapers, dealing with feedings and fitting in playtime can make for some very tired parents with very little down time, not to mention alone time with their spouse or partner. And according to a new Savvy Parents Survey from Evenflo®, 66% of moms say that the thing that surprised them most about becoming a new parent was how exhausting it is. Every parent deserves a little bit of down time to relax and savor a few moments with their spouse, and in its newest Savvy Parents webisode titled, “How to Relish the ‘Little Moments’ in Life” (http://youtu.be/4Mj32uviG_o), Evenflo takes a whimsical look at the challenges parents face finding relaxing moments each day. When we asked a panel of moms about their favorite thing to do once the … Read entire article »

I Did Something Right

Do you have those moments as a parent? Everyone should from time to time. I frequently question my judgement – should I have let her do that? Should I have bought this? Or not bought that?  Should I have made her study more? less?  But this past weekend, I realized I’ve done one thing right – in fact I’ve done it better than right – I’ve done it perfect.  I’ve created a lifelong bond between my girls. With the age difference, it’s always been interesting to watch Cameron (10) and Becka (19) interact.  If you read regularly, you know that Becka left for college 6 hours away this past summer and has now completed her first semester. She came in last Friday, and we are both so excited to have her … Read entire article »

Drop-Side Cribs Outlawed

Drop-Side Cribs Outlawed

I just received an email informing me that the Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously today to outlaw Drop-Side Cribs. These are the traditional cribs that you probably slept in and any of your older children probably had. I know we still have my daughter’s in the attic and if I were to have another, I had full intention of using it again as it was in near perfect shape. But maybe it’s time for … Read entire article »

5 tips to Overcoming Bullying

Guest Post by Mucheru Njaga Let’s Address the Real Problem: 5 tips to overcoming bullying I was a bully. I didn’t plan on being one. In fact, before then, I was the victim of bullying. As a freshman in an all-boys boarding school, I, along with all of the junior students, served every command of the “prefects,” the senior leader students. They ruled our school with a heavy hand and had more power than the teachers. They bullied us physically; once I had to jump on my knees. Another time, they took away our privilege to wear pants so that we had to walk around in our boxers. Verbal humiliation was an everyday occurrence as well. Four years later, I became a “prefect,” a bully and a part of a system I once … Read entire article »

Giving Unto Others

In my house, I always try to stress the importance of thinking of others. From small things such as my daughter passing down her clothes to other families in our community instead of us having a garage sale or selling them on ebay. We always donate to every food drive that our school hosts, and stop at EVERY Salvation Army bell ringer during the holidays to give at least a little change (I actually go to the bank before we go out and get change). In our rural area, it’s easy to find ways to give of money or materials, but what I have a hard time with is finding actual locations that we can give our time. We try to schedule visits to our local nursing homes, but other … Read entire article »

Review: Allowance Manager

Does your child get an allowance? Do they have to work for it or is it a given? Cameron is “paid” based on several things. First and foremost is that she is paid for her grades and attendance at the end of each grading period. I feel that school is her job, and therefore, feel that this should be the primary way that she earns spending money. In addition, she has some weekly chores that she gets paid very little for (but she does get a little). My theory here is that she should be brushing her teeth, keeping her room clean, helping with laundry or dishes, etc since she is part of the family and these do not get paid a lot. They do give her a little … Read entire article »

American Express PASS

American Express PASS

As you know if you are a regular reader, my oldest daughter went away to college this year (6 hours away!). She is really learning the value now of wise money management. I’m no longer there when she wants a $1 for a soda or needs supplies for a class project. It’s now on her to take her financial aid and pay and make ends meet. While I am trying to teach her … Read entire article »

Generic is OK

This post brought to you by PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine. I can remember when generic or store brands were considered of less worth than nationally known name brands, but those times are over. (and honestly probably they were always just as good) Baby Formula is one of those touchy issues where many still feel that they need to stick to the more commonly known national brands, but just as store brand canned vegetables are fine so is store brand formula. The nutritional value of store brand baby formula is the same as the major brands so well known in our families. The difference is the price. How do they provide you with the same quality formula with such a price difference? It’s simply because they are not given away at … Read entire article »
