Halloween Woes

Halloween is not going to be fun this year. Why? Because we can’t find a costume for Cameron. She’s apparently at an awkward size and so we are going to have to build her costume from scratch and I’m not the most crafty mom. *sigh* See she’s a size 14 and everything I can find that would come close is a 12-14, but she can’t wear anything that is a “12.” And then we move to the adult costumes but everyone we find that is not inappropriate is a One Size Fits All, and she’s no where near big enough for a one size fits all adult size. So here we are still trying to decide what we’re going to do. We usually have a costume … Read entire article »

Guest Post: Early Childhood Education – Acquiring Sign Language

One of the keys to surviving in a tilted economic system in which opportunities to achieve a decent standard of living will be limited is versatility – and the ability to communicate articulately in a variety of ways with the widest possible audience. This includes bilingual ability as well as the ability to communicate in non-verbal ways for the benefit of the disabled – primarily the deaf. At the same time, a growing shortage of qualified interpreters fluent in American Sign Language has led to more career opportunities – and if current trends continue, it’s likely that skilled ASL interpreters will have little problem securing lucrative employment in a society where such a commodity is destined to be in short supply. Signing Before They Can Speak A great deal of research has clearly … Read entire article »

Charge Up Your Confidence: Tool Kit for Kids

Oops!  I just realized that I never wrote this review for Role Mommy and posted it here.  Why though? Because after Cameron and I went through it, she claimed it to her room and I haven’t seen it since. When I asked her where it was?  It was in her nightstand, and as she brought it to me, she told me how she’d been reading the cards at bed time. What is it you ask? The Charge Up Your Confidence Elementary School Edition Tool Kit for Kids. I wasn’t sure what to expect when we agreed to review it, but Cameron has always struggled some with confidence when it comes to school or team activities.  We received 20 round cards along with a CD storage case.  The cards are the size … Read entire article »

Dealing with Illness

When we take turns being sick. I was sick all week last week. Friday Becka seemed to come down with it and is recovering. Now it’s probably just a matter of time before Cameron is the one feeling icky. This means that I need to stock up on children’s medicine. One of my favorites is Triaminic. Cameron still can’t (or won’t) swallow medicine so I love that Triaminic always seems to do the magic with their Thin Strips and chewables. I recently found out that Triaminic has recently joined with the National Association of School Nurses to create Sick Day Guidelines to help parents decide when to send our kiddos to school and when to keep them home. As a Mom who hates to keep her children … Read entire article »

Parenting Necessity: CoverPlugs

All of you Mom’s have been there – trying to pull out those plug covers with your fingernails (or lack therof in my case). They always fit in real tight, but then when I needed to plug something in, it was a pain in the you know what to get that cover out and use the outlet. However, they actually seemed to get my daughter’s attention more than just the normal plug, and she was much better at getting them out than I was. But that was before CoverPlugs. Yes, these are still outlet covers, but they are so much better than those little round things I used when Cameron was a baby. Check them out. They cover the entire outlet, and you can … Read entire article »

CartStopper: Don’t Leave Home Without It

Have you ever been shopping and head out to load all of your stuff in the car only to turn your back and find that your buggy has rolled off – with your items, your purse, or worse yet, your child? It’s simple – us moms just don’t have enough hands for all the tasks we need. So why didn’t one of us come up with this great idea? I’m not sure, but it truly is one of those ideas that are so simple, I can’t beleiver we’ve gone so long without them – The CartStopper! What is a CartStopper? CartStopper is a plunger type device that you attach to your buggy and your car while you unload groceries (or whatever you bought) and your little one (and don’t … Read entire article »
