Holiday Recommendations: Unique Stocking Stuffer from Vapur

Holiday Recommendations: Unique Stocking Stuffer from Vapur

When we travel, we always take our own water bottles with us – particularly when we go to Disney. In the last year, the community water where we go to school has gone down hill, and we are almost always under a boil water notice. In fact, the water company has installed purified water machines in all of our buildings. So now we are carrying our own water bottles to school. This is not a … Read entire article »

Twelve Unique Food Festivals

Locally we have the Blueberry Festival and the Watermelon Festival.  And you can’t forget the Poultry Festival (or as I call it The Chicken Fair).  Not food related, but we also have the Pineywoods Festival, the Forest Festival, and the Sassafrass Festival. I have always thought it would be neat to travel the country (or even the world) to find these fun and unique festivals that towns host. Other Interesting Festivals: The Midwest Tomato Fest – Hastings, Minnesota The Banana Festival – Sacramento, California Morton Pumpkin Festival – Morton,Illinois Corn Festival – Wilmington, Ohio National Baby Food Festival – Fremont, Michigan Wurstfest – New Braunfels, Texas These sound YUMMY! Banana Split Festival – Wilmington, Ohio Pensacola Crawfish Festival – Pensacola, Florida Maine Lobster Festival – Rockland, Maine Georgia Peach Festival – Byron and Fort Valley Georgia Strawberry Festival – Garden Grove, California Gatorfest – … Read entire article »

Disney Refillable Mug Policy Change

Disney Refillable Mug Policy Change

Saying that this is a policy change is probably not the right wording.  The policy itself hasn’t change; however, Disney is now testing out a new system to enforce the policy that has been in existence for a long time. What is the policy that I speak of? Basically the policy is that if you buy a refillable mug during your stay in a Disney resort, you are entitled for free refills for the length of … Read entire article »

Tips on How to Budget for an Affordable Family Vacation

Summer is the time for vacations, whether it’s visiting family or just getting away for a weekend. The only problem: vacations can be expensive, from gas for the car to flights, hotels, and every meal at a restaurant. Chicago Healers Practitioner Julie Casserly, MBA urges vacationers to “Position yourself to be lucky to spend the amount of money you actually have for a vacation, instead of going into debt and later on having to pay for past choices. No one likes having what I call a ‘spending hangover;’ it takes all the fun out of going on vacation in the first place.” Last Minute Deals – In a world where there are so many things to do, most of the travel websites will have last minute trips at a deep … Read entire article »

Insurance in Panama

I know I should have (after reading lots of travel websites) but I did not take out extra health insurance to cover me out of the US (and I did not check to see if my coverage covered me).  I know that I read that most government issued insurance like Medicare part D plan does not. However, upon entering customs (and getting my first ever passport stamp), there were big signs saying you get 30 free days of health insurance in Panama. Who would have known? Obviously I’m hoping to not take advantage of it, but it’s a good fact to know, huh? … Read entire article »

Hello From Panama

You may have noticed not many posts this week.  That’s because I left Saturday for Panama.  I’m having a great time and will post a full trip review when I get home. The first night we stayed at a Marriott that was right beside a big mall where you could buy everything you can think of.  This was a high class mall – reminded me of the Gallerias back home.  Name brands, custom engagement rings, high dollar electronics. They had it all. And the prices were very similar to at home (so no benefit in coming to Panama to shop). I have viewed the Panama Canal and sailed through the Panama Canal.  Today I am off to an all inclusive resort for 2 days (but inclusive does not mean Internet … Read entire article »

Arrived in Panama

I got up at 2 this morning and headed to the airport a little after 3.  Took the 6 am flight to Miami, and then transferred to a flight to Panama! I am doing the Panama Canal Cruise and Tour with Caravan Tours. Nothing overly exciting yet.  After getting settling in, we walked over to the adjacent mall.  It is huge with every type of store you can think of.  You can buy everything from clothing to food to souvenirs to electronics such as iPads and garmin hand held gps. The official touring starts tomorrow.  Any day that I’m not exhausted, I’ll post about my day!  Stay tuned. … Read entire article »

Summer Travels

When you are a school teacher at least, most family travels happen in the summer.  We’ve gone to Disney already this summer, and I’ll be soon taking a mom’s vacation for a week.  After that though, vacations are more like staycations.  It’s close to home and/or low budget places.  That’s why I love my friends with RVs (and wish I had one).  We don’t really use it to travel far; instead they are lake homes.  Times when you can go and spend a few days on the lake, you just pull that rv out of the garage, take care of any rv repair that might be needed after sitting up all winter, and then head to the lake.  The one friend that we visit the most on the lake has … Read entire article »

Dreamin’ of Christmas Travels

This post brought to you by Hilton Branson. All opinions are 100% mine. We’ll be staying home this holiday season and saving for summer travels, but if we could travel, a trip to stay at the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing and visiting all the attractions in Branson would be a dream vacation for my family.  There is so much to do always in Branson, but there are even more things to do over the holidays including Breakfast with Santa, Pictures with Santa, and Story Time with Mrs. Claus. Breakfast with Santa takes place every Saturday and Sunday at the Hilton from 9 – 11. He has to leave after the 19th though so he can finish all the last minute preparation for Christmas Eve. He takes a break each evening though for pictures … Read entire article »

How To Create a Custom Epcot Passport

How To Create a Custom Epcot Passport

I think my favorite places on Disney property is Epcot World Showcase. I’ve heard over and over on various Disney forums about how families skip it or barely explore it because it’s just not interesting to families.  However, my youngest has loved it since her first trip at 5.  It’s all about perspective and making it fun.  One of the things she really enjoys is the masks (now replaced with Duffy) and getting her passport … Read entire article »
