Review & Giveaway: MolliCoolz Shakers

Shakers Chocolate package and milkshake glass_smThis summer I banned our local ice cream/hamburger shop.  It’s a national chain and I won’t say any names, but I grew up eating there once a week with my grandfather. It’s always been a favorite, but lately it seems like every time we go, their prices have increased.  The last time I went, I was home alone and feeling lazy so I called them up and ordered a chicken strip basket (a regular 4 piece with no drink or ice cream).  I drove to town, pulled through the drive thru and was almost in complete shock when the teenager wanted EIGHT BUCKS!  ok…so their food is good, but IT’S NOT THAT GOOD!

I’ve done ok without going by every couple weeks, but Cameron has been missing her ice cream treats and milkshakes.  When I saw the opportunity to review the MolliCoolz Shakers Milkshakes, I knew that Cameron would be THRILLED to try out this product and tell me about it.

About the Product

Shakers come as single serving milkshakes in small plastic containers as seen in the picture. They come in four flavors – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies n cream.  Cameron’s always been a vanilla milkshake kind of girl so I wasn’t suprised when that was the first one she wanted to try.  My favorite though is cookies and cream.

Because Shakers are available at national and regional grocery chains, I thought I’d probably receive a few coupons for the yummy $2 treats and then head to my local grocery store to try a few, but even better the actual shakes arrived on my door steps in a cooler with dry ice keeping them frozen.

Inside the individual container, you’ll find small “pelletized ice cream beads, frozen through the aid of liquid nitrogen technology, are specially formulated to soften and mix with milk producing a consistent and convenient milkshake experience every time.”  Think dipping dots – that’s what they reminded me of when I saw them.

How To Make Your Milkshake

First, you shake up the dots a little. Next you add milk:

**Yes, I know the video is sideways…I can’t figure out how to fix it….but I’ve got a Flip on the way and expect videos to be better in the future.**

And then you put the lid back on and shake it for 30 seconds:

And after shaking for 30 seconds, you remove the lid and have a YUMMY milkshake almost the same as those one in your local ice cream shops:

And the result: A happy girl who is getting a milkshake from the comfort of home!

Our Review:

Taste: YUMMY! YUMMY!  YUMMY!  That’s the first thing we want to say.  They were great tasting!  We loved each one.

Process: The process is simple.  It was nice to make a milkshake without having to dig out and use the blender (and even better no cleanup afterwards).  I’m not sure if it is because of how cold the settings are on my freezer, but my only complaint was that it took a little more shaking than Cameron could do it seemed like at first (or maybe more than 30 seconds) because when she made the first one a good bit of the dots were still left clumped at the bottom.  To solve that, we left the future ones out for a few minutes (5 ish) before adding the milk and shaking.  This solved the problem and the rest turned out great (and Cameron made all but one by herself).

Price: At approximately $2 a shake, these won’t be able to be daily treats (which is probably good for our waistlines anyways), but I can see us keeping 3 or 4 of these in the freezer for special occassions.  I’m even thinking about looking for them at my local store so that we can have them as a party favor at my daughter’s birthday party in August. Maybe one day, you’ll be able to buy them in a multipack for a slightly cheaper price.

BUT NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS!  You can have your first for Shakers for FREE!  Yes, thanks to the generosity of MolliCoolz, two winners will receive their own 4 pack of Shakers.
