Review: Smelly Washer

Summer is the worst time for my washer.  Why? First off, we change clothes more – working my washer over more, and then there’s all the beach towels. It doesn’t matter how many times I yell say it, we still use different towels every time we swim.  Oh, and those towels are wet and sometimes sit for days before I wash them.

And then there’s the fact that my washer and dryer are outside in the shed.  It’s hot here in Texas which means two things – 1. I put off doing laundry because I have to go out in the heat to do so and I don’t want to and 2. Because I don’t want to go outside, sometimes the clothes sit in the washer for too long.

After clothes sit outside in the washer for very long, they start to smell “mildewy.” It doesn’t take long either.  If I get sidetracked for very long at all, the clothes get that smell and I have to rewash them.  UGH!  But rewashing them doesn’t help the washer. The washer slowly starts to have that mildew scent all the time.  I’ve searched and read of different things to run through your washer to eliminate the smell and then discovered Smelly Washer, the only clothes washer cleaner that is all natural.

The people at Smelly Washer were generous enough to send me a bottle to try out, and it worked.  It actually took the sent of the mildew/mold out of my washer – the only catch? Now I have to go get those clothes moved into the dryer faster so the scent doesn’t come back.

How It Works

Fill the washer in the hottest setting after adding a tablespoon of Smelly Washer Cleaner in place of detergent. Add up to five gallons of water in order to also soak the area just above the normal waterline. Allow to agitate momentarily then stop the washer and allow it to soak.

Did that smell get into your towels to the point you just can’t get it out no matter how many times you wash? Smelly Washer can be used to eliminate the smell in them too using the following directions,

The washing machine MUST be cleaned before attempting to get rid of the odor-causing mold spores from towels and clothing because the odor is being transferred from the washer to them. After the washer is free from odor add a tablespoon of Smelly Washer to a full load and allow to agitate in a hot setting. Stop the washer and soak for two hours. Complete the cycle and the towels should smell like new. More extreme cases will need to do another wash with detergent to rinse out the dead mold spores. Do not soak brand new dark towels in Smelly Washer because they will fade. Wait until they’ve been washed a few times.

This is a really good product! I’m the absolute worst at leaving wet laundry in the washer for days. For whatever reason I stick my laundry in there and just forget about it, and then when I go to get a new load of laundry in there I get a whiff of a really strong scent. Living in Arizona leaving it for any period of time causes a problem, so having something that would actually get rid of that bad smell would be really helpful.

I may have to try this- I think we need it! I am with you when it comes to not liking laundry! We live in AZ and in the summer- the dryer going in the house makes it unbearable to go in there! My clothes sit forever!
