With labor day coming up (for many the official end of summer), I know many families are planning their final summer trips – and for many of us that means ROAD TRIP! Labor Day weekend always means one thing for my family – a trip to Dallas for my nephew’s birthday party.
Many cars now come with plenty of entertainment for their children, and if not you can buy portable DVD players and video games to entertain your child. My daughter does have a DS, but for the most part we still focus on seeing the world outside of the car. We play games where we see how many different state license plates we can find, look for “slug bugs,” and our latest game is looking for yellow cars. While all of this is fun, for a 9 year old those last few yours can still equal boredom without some careful planning.
Thanks to Rand McNally and RoleMommy, I have a new form of “car-tainment” for our upcoming trip. Rand McNally has introduced their Boredom Breakers to “bring families together, encouraging conversation, laughter and fun making the miles fly by for moms and kids on the go.”
There are currently 5 different activities (available through Amazon):

Includes everything needed to be a rockstar: an inflatable microphone, rating cards, and three lyric books. Choose from favorites like “Build Me Up Buttercup” or “Twist and Shout,” to see who’s got the pipes in the family. Earplugs not included!
RoleMommy sent us the Magent Message Makers to try out. We haven’t tried them out yet because I’ve been saving them for our upcoming trip, but I did open them to look over and see what I thought from a Mom perspective. I have put ours in a ziploc bag also to help with keeping up with them. It includes 2 larger magnets to be the bumper stickers and over 200 stickers for decorating the “bumper magnets.”
What’s great about these? Besides the 200 stickers that will take your child a while to think and decide what to put on their magnet, I also love that these are a project that truly get displayed. How exciting to create a display that will be on your mom or dad’s bumper to be displayed to thousands of people during your road trip. A few of these games would even be great for airplane trips too.
If you are traveling soon with a child, you might want to look at Rand McNally Boredom Breakers.
Thanks Rand McNally and Role Mommy for the opportunity to review Magnet Message Makers.
