State of Texas Shuts Down Interscholastic Competitions

The Swine Flu has hit Texas – BIG! Not with infections, but with numbers. The University Interscholastic League (UIL), the head of athletic, music, and academic competitions in Texas, has issued instructions that all competitions are to be put to an immediate halt.  This was the announcement I received today from UIL.

Our baseball season is close to an end – only one more game, and we can’t complete the season until May 11th.  Track Regional Competition – postponed with no date set yet.  Academic state – postponed with no date set yet.  This is HUGE!  I feel totally taken by surprise.  I’m glad that our leaders are being cautious, but I’m wondering if it’s too cautious.  We have one game left – ONE.  *sigh*

Oh well. I guess that this keeps schools from coming into contact with each other should one school happen to be hit with the Swine Flu?  Maybe we worry about the lawyers swooping in because they did not take proper action and postpone everything?   (like the Mesothelioma lawyers) I don’t know, but consider this your official notice – all Texas public schools – that rescheduling is going to be chaotic.  Best of Luck to you!
