I was recently discussing with a group of online friends how when we were young, we spent at least half the summer outside, and now if you walk out in many neighborhoods, you see no signs of children (even if you know your neighbors have kids). Why? Because so many are instead inside playing on their game systems, watching tv/movies, or online. In fact, U.S. children spend 50% less time outdoors than 20 years ago.
The Ad Council and US Forest Service have also noticed this trend and have started a PSA campaign with the goal of “encourage(ing) today’s youth (specifically tweens aged 8-12) and their parents to re-connect with nature by experiencing it first-hand.”
