Twelve Unique Food Festivals
Locally we have the Blueberry Festival and the Watermelon Festival. And you can’t forget the Poultry Festival (or as I call it The Chicken Fair). Not food related, but we also have the Pineywoods Festival, the Forest Festival, and the Sassafrass Festival. I have always thought it would be neat to travel the country (or even the world) to find these fun and unique festivals that towns host. Other Interesting Festivals: The Midwest Tomato Fest – Hastings, Minnesota The Banana Festival – Sacramento, California Morton Pumpkin Festival – Morton,Illinois Corn Festival – Wilmington, Ohio National Baby Food Festival – Fremont, Michigan Wurstfest – New Braunfels, Texas These sound YUMMY! Banana Split Festival – Wilmington, Ohio Pensacola Crawfish Festival – Pensacola, Florida Maine Lobster Festival – Rockland, Maine Georgia Peach Festival – Byron and Fort Valley Georgia Strawberry Festival – Garden Grove, California Gatorfest – … Read entire article »

Preparing to Cruise
We are just 100 days from our first ever cruise – a Disney Cruise. As we make preparations, one of the things were are doing is going through luggage to ensure that we all have 2 checked bags (thanks SW for free baggage) in good repair. I invested in a “pretty” set of themed luggage several years ago, and after it’s FIRST Trip, it came home missing a wheel. Yes, it’s really hard to manipulate a big suitcase through the airport (well actually 2) when one is missing a wheel!.. UGH! I ended up replacing that suitcase last summer with the cheapest set I could get my hands on. It’s still ok, but it’s a small set and as a family of 3 girls, we tend to fill up everyone … Read entire article »

Road Trip = BORED?
With labor day coming up (for many the official end of summer), I know many families are planning their final summer trips – and for many of us that means ROAD TRIP! Labor Day weekend always means one thing for my family – a trip to Dallas for my nephew’s birthday party. Many cars now come with plenty of entertainment for their children, and if not you can buy portable DVD players and video games to entertain your child. My daughter does have a DS, but for the most part we still focus on seeing the world outside of the car. We play games where we see how many different state license plates we can find, look for “slug bugs,” and our latest game is looking for yellow cars. While all … Read entire article »

Day 2 – Blogher is Underway!
Day 2 is underway…Started with a yummy breakfast and then hit up some sessions. I switched between the Mommy Blogging and the Business Blogging sessions and found them all to be informative. Then I hit up the exhibitor booths where there was everyone from phone companies to Walmart to insurance companies. Maybe my favorite was the GM booth – not for the contest or the swag but because I got to sit in one of the new Camaros! WOOHOO! Yes, they have a 2010 Camaro! I want it so bad it’s not funny…I just have to keep reminding myself that a Camaro means a car payment and high insurance rates I’m sure I don’t want as much as I want the car. I’ll give more details later….but wanted to just … Read entire article »

Lessons Learned at Blogher So far
Ok…so after just a half day or so at Blogher, I’ve alraedy learned a few lessons that I want to share to those that will go to future Bloghers. Be sure to literally bring as many suitcases (and big ones) as you can! There is so much SWAG it’s not even funny. I’m already wondering how I’ll pack everything back to go home. Sharing rooms? Know you only need to pay a small amount for the room? Make sure someone has a credit card with a high enough balance to cover the entire bill at checkin. Even if you are paying cash at checkout or whatever, they will still scan (and maybe put a hold) someone’s card as a guarantee. … Read entire article »

Night 1 at Blogher
So yes…Blogher doesn’t officially start until tomorrow morning but tonight was great!! Checked into the room and got settled in which was a relief after the airport journey. The only problem – the WIFI SUCKS! yep. It shows up as if it should work great BUT it’s all an illusion. You connect to the network, but get no damn Internet! What’s up with that Sheraton? Didn’t you know that all the participants at a BLOGGING CONFERENCE would expect Internet! You should have been ready for this! … Read entire article »

Blogher is SOON!
I can’t believe Blogher is almost here. I don’t feel ready AT ALL. I’ve got nothing prepared. Business cards ordered, but not here. I have no idea what I’m going to wear at all! I NEED TO GO SHOPPING! And I really want to do at least one tourist thing on Thursday after I arrive…I’ve never been to Chicago. Will I ever go back? I don’t know. I feel like I could plan our Orlando vacations in my sleep, but I feel clueless with Chicago. Anyone from Chicago? Anyone that’s going to Blogher? If I only do one (or two) things on Thursday after my flight lands, what should I do? HELP! … Read entire article »

Looking For Your Reviews
Today I’m looking for your reviews instead of my own. I want to vacation semi cheaply this year and one thing I’m considering is a road trip. Maybe renting an RV and just seeing the country with the girls, but I need to hear your reviews of the best rv parks in the south. We wouldn’t go too far from Texas, but would like to get out of our area. So – do you have a favorite? Or a good website for finding some of the best? It’s your time to tell me your opinions instead of me sharing mine. … Read entire article »

Summer Time = Vacation Time
It’s that time – time to plan vacations – if you haven’t already done so. I haven’t really decided on all of our vacations for this summer, but I plan to do a few small vacations instead of anything big. Our biggest vacation will be in Chicago when I go to BlogHer, but other than that, we’ll stay within a few hours of home probably. Thinking Galveston maybe as we can stay with family and friends who live not too far away, and then maybe Corpus. On my list to do before Becka graduates is going to California so I’ve been looking a little at San Diego California hotels thinking maybe a school holiday would be a good time for such a trip. Anyone from California? Ideas on what we … Read entire article »
