Walgreens & Express Scripts Dilemma

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

I use Walgreens for our family prescriptions so I immediately noticed the offer to share this information with my readers so I started reading up on the problems between Walgreens and Express Scripts, and I’m amazed.

Background In Case You Are Clueless Like I Was

Over the last year, Walgreens and Express Scripts have been under negotiations to renew their contract permitting Walgreens to be an approved pharmacy for those with insurance through Express Scripts.  As of December 31, there was no contract, and the previous contract had expired leaving many (including military families) without the ability to use Walgreens as they may have for a long time for their family’s prescriptions.  The new plan will require Express Scripts customers to rely primarily on the mail toe fill their prescriptions.

One such group of people effected by this change are military (present and retired) families with prescriptions service through Tricare, a component of the Express Scripts program.

Walgreen’s Response

Customers can now become members of the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens for the cost of $5 for an individual or $10 for a family. This would allow families to stay with Walgreens and get a discount on over 8,000 brand name prescription medications as well as many generic medications as well.

More Information

If you would like more information, you can follow Walgreens on Twitter or follow Walgreens on Facebook. If you would like to support this cause, you could contact your local media to voice your dissatisfaction, and they may run this information on your local news bringing more awareness to the issue.
